REAL LIFE NEWS: SEE, I TOLD YOU CHEWING GUM WAS GOOD FOR YOU!

Chewing on a piece of gum might make you look dumb but it turns out it can boost your alertness, according to a new study.
Japanese researchers have discovered that the act of chewing increases reaction times by improving the blood flow to the brain. They scanned the brains of volunteers who carried out tasks while chewing and also when they were not chewing. The test involved participants pressing a button with either their left or their right thumb depending on the direction of an arrow on the screen.
The result was that people who weren’t chewing took 545 milliseconds to react, but the chewers took 493 milliseconds.
My mother, who considered chewing gum to be horribly uncouth, would be horrified!
