FEDPARDY

Tuesday January 3
by Fancy-Fancy

Six players joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's 2006 premiere of Fedpardy. Robius, Occy, Jessecka, Ryuken, Prometheus, and Southgnte all came to the studio, ready to play, with Nancy and Furgas watching on the channel, and Lovelylady later dropping in and watching the game. I went over the rules of the game for Occy and our other new players tonight. Once all questions on how to play had been addressed, I revealed tonight's categories, which were: Out with the "Old", In with the New, H Choo, and Magellan. The players then spun for the chance to select first, and Southgnte gained that honor, and selected Out with the "Old" for 1 to start the game.

Ryuken rang in to give the correct question to that for the first point of the game, and then gained the 2 for good measure. He started In with the New for 1, and Robius got that. They both missed the 3 point answer in "Old", buth then Southgnte got on the board with the 4 point answer, and Jessecka with the 5. With that category done, Jessecka started on H Choo. She got the 1, Occy the 2, the 3 got passed, and Ryuken rang in and got the 4, bringing us to the half. Jessecka led with 6, followed by Ryuken and Southgnte with 4 each, Occy with 2, and Robius trailing with -2, which meant he would get to select first to start Double Fedpardy.

With all remaining point values doubled, Robius selected H Choo for 10, and found the first Daily Double there. He decided to make it worth the maximum 10 he could make it for the points he had, and received this answer from H Choo:

The three commodities that fit the category.

Robius came through with, "what are hypnos, hides and holos?" to gain 10 points, get out of the hole, and take the lead. He followed that by selecting In with the New for 8, and got that after Ryuken missed it. Ryuken got out of that hole by correctly questioning the next answer, In with the New for 4, but fell back in again when he missed the 10 point answer, which Prometheus then got correct to get on the board. Jessecka then got the 6 point answer from In with the New to finish that category, leaving only Magellan. Jessecka selected Magellan for 10 to start that category, and after Occy missed it to go in the hole, Ryuken got it to get out of his hole. The 8 point answer got passed by everyone, and then Ryuken found the other Daily Double under the 6 point answer. He elected to make it worth 10 points, and this was his answer:

This company has made a business of buying low and selling high, only as a corporate entity and on a corporate scale. They put their headquarters on Magellan to avoid interference from the Trading Guild.

Ryuken responded with, "what is universal exports?", which was correct, putting him on the plus side with 10. Robius then got the 2 point answer, and Jessecka the 4 after Ryuken missed it to close out Double Fedpardy. The scores at the end of Double Fedpardy were:

Robius: 18
Jessecka: 16
Prometheus: 10
Ryuken: 6
Southgnte: 4
Occy: -8

I thanked Occy for playing tonight, but let him know he would not be in Final Fedpardy tonight. But Robius, Jessecka, Prometheus, Ryuken, and Southgnte would all get the opportunity to wager as many of their points as they wished in it, and to help them decide their wagers, they got the category of In the News. Once I had all the Finalists' wagers, I refreshed them with how Final Fedpardy would go, and upon verifying everyone was ready, revealed tonight's Final Fedpardy answer and started the timer:

This new command went in over the holidays which allows planet owners to get rid of unwanted factories and depots on their planets.

Southgnte wrote down, "what is expropriate factory", which I counted as good since it had the right command word, expropriate, in it. Southgnte bet all 4 of his points, doubling his score to 8.

We moved over to Ryuken next. His response was, 'what is expunge?' That was incorrect. His wager was all 6 of his points, leaving him with nothing.

Prometheus was next, and his question was, "what is 'EXPROPRIATE DEPOT companyname'". Once again, I counted that as correct, since the correct command word expropriate started the command part. He won his 9 point wager, bringing his score to 19.

I moved over to Jessecka next. Her response was, "what is expel?" Not correct. That cost her a wager of all 16 of her points, dropping her down to zero.

That brought us to the leader coming in, Robius. His question was, "what is expropriate?", the correct response. Then it was a matter of whether he wagered enough. His wager was 7 points, giving him 25 in all, which was indeed enough to make him our first Fedpardy champion of 2006.

Congratulations to Robius in first with 25, Prometheus in second with 19, and Southgnte in third with 8 as our top finishers in the 2006 premiere of Fedpardy. Thanks also go to everyone else who played and tuned in for tonight's game. Join us again in Studio 1 on January 17 for our next exciting edition of FEDPARDY! And join us on January 10 in the same Studio 1 for the Fed Phrase Game, also starting at 10.00pm eastern.
