DUMB CRIMINAL OF THE WEEK: FACEBOOK SELFIE SHOWED MURDER WEAPON

A murderer was caught by police after she posted a picture on Facebook that showed the murder weapon, in yet another example of how social media can give away much more than you expect.
The Canadian woman, Cheyenne Rose Antoine, has been convicted of killing her friend Brittney Gargol in March 2015.
Gargol’s body was discovered near a landfill in Saskatoo, Saskatchewan. She had been strangled with a belt, which had been left next to the body.
Antoine had first told police that the pair had been out drinking and then Gargol had left with an unidentified man. Police thought that the story didn’t add up, so they checked her Facebook posts to help establish a timeline of the pair’s movements.
Significantly, they noticed that a selfie Antoine had posted of the two of them showed her wearing the belt that had been used as the murder weapon.
Clearly if she wasn’t such a dumb criminal she would have taken the belt away and disposed of it, rather than leaving it at the crime scene.
She pleaded guilty to the murder last week.
