MAPS AND NEWSLETTERS FROM THE OLDEN DAYS
by Hazed
A player recently sent us some images of stuff he/she has kept from their days playing Fed on Compunet. (Unfortunately I can’t find a record of who it was that sent them to me! If you are that player, mail feedback@ibgames.net to get a credit.)
First is a set of maps. In the days before the FedTerm graphic front-end with auto-mapping, we had to draw our own maps as we explored. These were highly prized and those who were not adept at drawing, or were too lazy to put in the effort, would beg more diligent players to send them copies of their maps.
You can see the player’s maps in the Fed archive: http://www.ibgames.net/archives/images/compunetmaps.jpg
The second image is of a set of newsletters. I wrote and published the DataSpace newsletter for Compunet players, using the brand new desktop publishing software that had recently become available and that I had been tasked with learning to use in my real life job. Then I printed them out and sent them by snail mail to players who had subscribed. Yes, this was before email mailing lists were available!
I really should look through my boxes of junk to see if I can find copies of these newsletters…
