GAMER OF THE WEEK: ATTACK OVER MAGIC: THE GATHERING

Game players get quite fanatical about their hobby, and tensions can run high between those on either side of a contest. But they don’t usually end in violence.
Until now. Elija Creech, a 31-year-old man, was playing a game of Magic: The Gathering with his gaming buddy, a 20-year-old (who hasn’t been named). During the game they got into a heated argument, and Creech hit his opponent over the head with a rubber mallet. Then he stabbed him seven times in the front, sides, and back of his neck.
He must have calmed down a bit then because he was worried his victim was going to die, so he called 911. The guy was taken to hospital and his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Creech was arrested and charged with assault. Turns out he was a dodgy character, having a prior conviction for keeping explosives with intent to use them. Just as well he didn’t have any on him when the argument broke out otherwise the argument could have blown up – literally!
