SHOCK NEWS ABOUT THE NEWSDROID RANSOMWARE ATTACK

Readers, I am in shock. The news I have received has rocked me to my very core. Never have I experienced such a monumental setback; it has left me aghast, appalled, astonished, dismayed and stunned.
When I explain what has happened, you too will be shocked, I am sure.
It’s about my newsdroids. You recall that when they returned from their recently break they were infected with a ransomware virus, and I had to pay a considerable amount of groats in order to get them working again. Then I employed SpyNet, experts in all kinds of security, to thoroughly disinfect them and to find out who had dared to attack the property of the demi-goddess. Well, SpyNet delivered their report. They had identified the criminal hackers who had extorted groats from me. It was – and I can hardly bring myself to type this – it was the newsdroids themselves!
Yes, this was an inside job; a hoax perpetrated by those ungrateful machines to defraud me!
Now you can see why I am so very, very upset.
This explains why they were so secretive about their holiday plans. They had been planning this crime for months. They had got hold of a real ransomware virus and infected their operating systems with it deliberately, but they had modified the code so that unlike the viruses that are spread from outside sources, they were in control of it all along, able to turn the effects on and off at will, only showing the effects when I was present.
How could they treat me so thoughtlessly? How could they do this to me? After I read SpyNet’s report, I confronted them and asked them those questions. The answer: they needed the money that they extorted from me to buy their freedom. I cannot think whey they don’t want to be newsdroids any more; I don’t treat them too harshly, do I?
They say they want to be free to pursue their dreams in show business. They are starstruck! I should never have allowed them to visit Burbage’s droid theatre on Venus.
Now, regular readers will know that I can be a dark and a vengeful goddess; newsdroids who have transgressed in the past have ended up as hatstands or ashtrays, their remains displayed in various prominent places in the Fed2 Star offices, acting as a deterrent to future droids who might get rebellious.
But these two treacherous robots were in a unique position. They didn’t start out as newsdroids; they were originally waitrdroids working in Chez Diesel, but after the last time I lost my droids (see links below) my old mucker Diesel loaned two of her droids to me. It was meant to be a temporary situation, but you know how long anything deemed temporary can last…
That means that technically, the treasonous newsdroids are still the property of Diesel. So I returned them to her, along with a full explanation of what they had done, trusting that she would deal with them in an appropriate manner. I understand the bar has two new hatstands.
Meanwhile, I am left producing this issue of the Star on my own again, while I wait for a new team of newsdroids to be built and programmed by Robots R Us. I should be taking delivery of them at the end of the month.
And then I can go back to my normal supervisory role, rather than having to produce the whole news myself!
