VIDEO OF THE WEEK: ORIGAMI THAT FOLDS ITSELF
by Hazed
Researchers have developed a type of polystyrene will fold itself into complex shapes, when the right kind of light is shone on it.
The polystyrene that is used to make cups and take-out containers shrinks when it is heated, so the researchers thought it would be an ideal material to make self-folding objects. They used colour printing and light to make thin 2D sheets fold up into complex 3D shapes.
Watch a video of the self-folding material, and read about how it works, here.
