REAL LIFE NEWS: HOW TO GET ABSOLUTELY ALL THE KETCHUP OUT OF THE BOTTLE
by Hazed
No matter how much you shake the bottle or bash the end, you can never get that last little bit of ketchup out of the bottle.
Until now. Scientists in Boston have developed a coating for the inside of bottles that makes them super slippery, so you can always get the last drop out. It will work not just for ketchup but for containers holding toothpaste, cosmetics and even glue. This could drastically reduce waste.
To manufacture a container with the new coating, first the inside is coated with a rough surface. Then a very thin layer is put over it, and finally a liquid is added which fills in any troughs. This forms a very slippery surface, like an oily floor. The ketchup just slips over the surface and glides out of the bottle.
One drawback, though, is that it could reduce manufacturer’s profits because people won’t have to buy a new bottle of ketchup quite so soon!
