REAL LIFE NEWS: AOL’S MAIL GUY NOW DRIVES AN UBER

Anyone who’s been playing Fed for a while probably, at one time, had an AOL account. In which case you will remember the sound clips that played when various things happened: the voice that said “Welcome” when you logged on, and “You’ve got mail” when you received an email.
It turns out that the man who voiced those phrases, Elwood Edwards, is now driving an Uber in Ohio. A Twitter user found out when she booked an Uber last weekend. It’s not clear if she recognised the guy’s name, or if it was his voice that tipped her off.
When AOL launched its service in the UK it used a different voice: that of English actress Joanna Lumley. I have fond memories of her voice telling me “You’ve got post.” Very classy!
