DUMB SECURITY MAN OF THE WEEK: THE WRONG LEG

by Hazed

When Dana Hamilton was shot and killed in Southeast Washington last month, a witness clearly identified the culprit. But police at first couldn’t believe that the suspect, known as “Q”, had done it.

The reason for their scepticism was that following a previous arrest, Q had been made to wear a tracking bracelet, and that showed he’d been in his apartment a mile away from the killing scene.

But security footage seemed to back up the witness, showing Q in the area of the murder. How could that be?

Police wondered if he had found a way to tamper with the GPS device. But no, it was working as it should. It was still attached to Q’s leg, which was indeed in his apartment. Trouble was, the leg wasn’t attached to the suspect!

The bracelet had been put onto Q’s artificial leg, and he’d just removed the leg and used a spare prosthetic to go out and about while seeming to be still in his apartment.

“I don’t understand how someone could put this device on a prosthetic leg,” said Sgt. Matthew Mahl, chairman of the D.C. police union.

Quite. The security person who fitted the bracelet onto Q’s artificial leg clearly wasn’t paying attention. Apparently, he put it on over a sock (it is supposed to be fitted to the bare leg) and didn’t realise that the leg underneath was not real. Very dumb indeed.
