REAL LIFE NEWS: IBUPROFEN GEL PATCH TO DELIVER RELIEF STRAIGHT TO WHERE IT’S NEEDED
by Hazed
As I said at the beginning of this issue, I’ve been laid up all week with a bad back, and I’ve been swallowing ibuprofen painkillers like they were sweeties (or candies, as my American readers would call them).
So I was delighted to see a report of a new development in the delivery of painkillers: an ibuprofen patch which is applied directly to the injured area, which will deliver the drug at a steady rate directly through the skin.
This would avoid the side-effects from taking the drug orally.
It’s the work of University of Warwick in the UK, and a spin-off company from the university called Medherant, who announced their intention to patent the new product.
They have also tested their new patch with other drugs.
I really could use some of this right now! But sadly I will have to wait about two years until it becomes available to buy.
