REAL LIFE NEWS: HOW TO STOP PRISONERS ESCAPING

Indonesia’s anti-drugs chief, Budi Waseso, has hit on a new scheme to stop prison escapes.
He plans to build a prison to house death row inmates on an island… an island guarded by crocodiles.
“You can’t bribe crocodiles,” he explained. “You can’t convince them to let inmates escape.” He plans to scour the country for “for the most ferocious type of crocodile.”
It sounds like something a supervillain would come up with. Piranhas, crocodiles, sharks with fricking laser beams…
I can see some flaws in this plan. Presumably there are going to be some staff in this prison – even if the guards are replaced by crocodiles, somebody has to feed the prisoners, so there will need to be an exit to let them get in and out of the facility. That just means the prisoners’ escape attempt will have to concentrate on that exit. If it’s guarded by humans instead of crocodiles, then you’re back to having somebody to bribe.
Plus, anyone who has seen the James Bond film Live and Let Die knows how crocodiles can aid an escape!
Although I gather that when filming that scene they had to tie the crocodiles in place. In real life I am sure there is no guarantee the reptiles will stay in the right position to be used as stepping stones!
