PICTURES OF THE WEEK: FACES FROM SPACE
by Hazed
Humans see faces and other meaningful shapes in random patterns – part of our evolutionary history, where the ability to stop a predator hidden in a forest or jungle meant the difference between survival and being eaten. It’s safer to react to an imaginary threat, than to ignore a real one.
Here’s a collection of pictures taken from space, showing faces, animals and other objects which appear to be on other planets – like the famous Cydonia face on Mars, or the happy face crater on the same planet. There’s also some pictures of nebulas which have been named after the shapes we see in the swirling patterns.
