ROSETTA NEWS: SPACECRAFT SEES ITS OWN SHADOW

Speaking of spacecrafts visiting rocky bodies, a new picture taken by the Rosetta spacecraft has just been released by the European Space Agency. It’s the highest resolution image we have seen so far, and it was was taken when the probe flew just 6 kilometres from the surface of comet 67P.
At the time the picture was taken, the sun was directly behind Rosetta – which means we can see the shadow of the craft on the comet’s surface.
So Rosetta saw its own shadow. However, unlike the groundhog, this doesn’t tell us anything about the future weather on the comet!
