REAL LIFE NEWS: ROBOT TRIES TO EAT WOMAN!
by Hazed
Is this the start of the robot uprising? Are the machines finally turning on their creators? Well, no, it’s not quite that alarming. A South Korean woman who was sleeping on the floor had her hair “eaten” by a robot vacuum cleaner.
Machines like the Roomba trundle around the home sweeping up dust and dirt. You just leave them to get on with it while you go out, or go to bed. They are designed to find their way around obstacles such as furniture. And presumably people lying on the floor.
But since they are also designed to pick up stray hairs, from pets or people, you can see how this incident happened.
The 52-year old woman, who hasn’t been named, was taking a nap on the floor when the cleaner started to suck up her long hair, so that it was engulfed into its innards and tangled around the workings. The pain caused by the greedy gadget chomping on the hair woke the woman up. She couldn’t free herself so she called the fire department.
Eventually paramedics were able to free her from the clutches of the over-zealous robot. Reports didn’t say whether they managed to save her hair or if it had to be cut off.
You could say that the moral of the story is: don’t sleep on the floor! But in cultures such as Japan and South Korea, it’s commonplace for people sit or sleep on the floor, so this may not be the last time we hear about Roombas trying to eat their owners.
