DUMB CRIMINAL OF THE WEEK: DROPPED PHONE WITH SELFIE

by Hazed

A very careless robber held up a jewellery store in London recently, but police know exactly who they are looking for – because he left his picture behind!

The thief took £18,000’s worth of rings in a raid on the Ernest Jones shop in Kingston, south-west London. But he accidentally left his mobile phone on the counter – and it had his photo set up as the screensaver.
Detectives were therefore able to identify him as a Frenchman called Germain Ibrahim Fofana.

It didn’t seem to be a very well-planned robbery, even without this supreme carelessness. Fofana went into the shop accompanied by a woman with a buggy and asked to look at engagement rings. They left the shop but Fofana returned a short while later on his own and asked to look at two of the rings and a wedding band. When he was given the jewellery, he legged it.

However, he left behind his bag which contained his phone, and when somebody sent him a text message while police were in the shop, the phone lit up and showed the selfie as his background image.

Police haven’t caught him yet, and he’s also wanted for questioning over other burglaries across London, but when they do collar him he’s not going to be able to deny his involvement.
