ROBOT OF THE WEEK: ROBOCOP LIVES!
by Hazed
The movies are coming to life, with a new robot night watchman being the closest thing we’ve seen to Robocop.
The K5 Autonomous Data Machine is the work of a silicon valley company called Knightscope. It’s five feet tall and weighs 300 pounds, and it’s intended “to augment private security services on corporate campuses and in large, vacant buildings and warehouses.”
It’ll have at its disposable a video camera, thermal imaging sensors, a laser range finger, radar, air quality sensors, GPS, a night-vision camera, biological, chemical and radiation detection systems, and a microphone.
Don’t worry, though, it’s not armed. It simply analyses what it sees and if it judges there’s a threat, it alerts its fleshy masters.
So not so much Robocop as Robowatchman. You can watch a video here, as well as read a whole lot of marketing guff spouted by a company spokesman (not a robot).
