AUDACIOUS CRIMINAL OF THE WEEK
by Hazed
A Romanian man who was on trial last year for stealing masterpieces by Gauguin, Monet and Picasso is threatening to sue the Dutch museum from whence he and his fellow thieves half-inched them on the grounds that they made the robbery too easy.
Rado Dogaru is one of the six thieves who carried out a spectacular heist last year from the Kunsthal museum in Rotterdam. They broke in before dawn and carried away paintings in sacks. The stolen works of art were valued in around $24 million but none of them had been fitted with an alarm.
That certainly sounds foolish of the museum, but still, suing them for their lack of security is taking the piss. If I accidentally forget to lock my car and a thief steals it, I don’t think I should be sued for being careless. But he’s giving it a go. Audacious, indeed!
You can read the details of the somewhat farcical robbery here.
