REAL LIFE NEWS: WATCH THE SKIES
by Hazed
Speaking of comets, right now is a great time for sky-watchers because there’s a comet heading our way. Comet Pan-STARRS is already visible to people in the southern hemisphere, and it’ll shortly move into the northern skies.
The first good opportunity for viewing in the northern hemisphere will probably be Tuesday or Wednesday, as it appears over the western horizon around dusk. Throughout March it will appear to climb higher in the sky.
You should be able to see it with the naked eye, but if you have a telescope or binoculars you’ll be able to make out more detail such as the tail of the comet, or the fuzzy cloud of dust and gas that surrounds the nucleus (the coma).
This will be a good warm-up act for Comet ISON which we expect to see glowing very brightly towards the end of the year - possibly as bright as the full moon.
Now if only the perpetual clouds currently hovering over London would lift for long enough to let me see the comet...
