ON THE WEB: ASTEROIDS AND METEORS, OH MY!

Last week saw two chunks of space rock in the news. One of them was expected: an asteroid passed very close to the Earth. The other wasn’t: a meteor exploded in mid-air over Russia, injuring over 1,000 people.

Signs and portents in the sky - what could they be telling us? Well, here’s a fascinating article that suggests that they are a signal that the human race needs to spread out a bit more, and stop putting all our eggs in one planetary basket. You can read the article here.

As a bonus, here’s a fabulous picture of the meteor flash in the sky over Chelyabinsk .

And a last minute extra bonus, many Russians don’t believe it was a meteor - instead they think it was a UFO, or perhaps an American missile test.
