CRASH BANG WALLOP

You may have noticed that we’ve had several crashes in the last few days. Sigh!

We don’t think the crashes are anything to do with the new code that went in. We believe they are the return of the very infrequent crashes which have plagued the game for some time, and which show up once or twice a year for a few days and then go away again.

We’ve never managed to pin down the cause of these crashes. One possibility is that there is a corrupted persona record, so that when a particular player does a particular thing - which might be logging on, or checking something, or trying to change a setting - it’s making the game crash. Alan is writing a program to go through the entire persona file and check for oddities that might cause problems.

Meanwhile, we need your help. If you are in Fed2 when the game crashes, then please email us a log showing what you were doing. Even if you weren’t doing anything, or were just sitting chatting or watching prices scroll past, we would still like to see your log.

I repeat that: EVEN IF YOU WEREN’T DOING ANYTHING! Even if you were away from your computer at the time. Your log might show us something related to somebody else. For example, it might show us who else was in the game at the time. Or if you have SpyNet Notice turned on, it might show us who logged on just before the crash. If nothing else, it can rule you out as a suspect.
