REAL LIFE NEWS: EXPLODING WEDDING CAKES

by Hazed

Another kind of incidendiary romantic foodstuff now, as food artists come up with an alternative wedding cake which you don’t have to hand round to the guests - because when you cut into it, this cake explodes.

“Traditional wedding cakes are a triumph of spectacle over taste,” said a spokesperson for the firm Bompas & Parr. “[Our] food explosion service pushes this ethos to the ultimate conclusion. The ritual of cutting the cake is significantly enhanced through the explosion, the sense of occasion heightened by the blast and your guests are spared eating flavourless fruitcake.”

The company’s service includes a risk assessment and an explosive technician, who liaises with your cake provider. On the day of the wedding they set the explosives, rig the detonator and supervise the explosion. The cost starts at £800 (about $1,300).

Henry Parr, one of the company’s partners, explained, “Wedding cakes can be brutally stodgy. Blowing the cake up spares the stomach after a heavy meal and is a good way to wake guests up for the speeches.”

And possibly a good way to bring Homeland Security down on you, too!
