REAL LIFE NEWS: FACEBOOK THIEVES

by Hazed

Beware of boasting about your wealth on Facebook: you might attract attention from the wrong kind of person.

A wealthy teenager from Sao Paulo posted pics of his electronic equipment and his foreign holidays on the social network. As a result, thieves robbed his family apartment.

The heist was organised by a student at his school who became jealous when the rich kid "boasted among friends and put the information on Facebook", according to police officer Fabiana do Sena. The 16-year-old criminal stole the victim's house keys then recruited two adults to carry out the robbery. They used the keys to enter the apartment late one evening and then held up the four people inside at gunpoint.

They made off with jewellery, six watches, electronic equipment and a bundle of cash, although evidently the haul wasn't as great as they were expecting: during the robbery one of them received a mobile call and said, "There's not as much here as you said."

Soa Paulo's paramilitary police intercepted the robbers during their escape and shot them - they later died in hospital. But even though the crime was ultimately a failure, the rich kid's boasting caused a very scary situation. Remember: the have-nots can get jealous of what the haves have.
