REAL LIFE NEWS: NO, MOBILE PHONES DON'T CAUSE CANCER

by Hazed

Another study has been carried out to test the claim that mobile phones cause brain tumors and cancer, and it has concluded that no - they don't. No surprise there!

This research was carried out by Denmark's Institute of Cancer. It looked at more than 350,000 people with mobiles, over a period of 18 years, and came up with the finding that they were at no greater risk than anyone else of developing brain cancer.

This is the result that anyone with half a brain (cancerous or not) would have expected. After all, given the huge increase in mobile phone use over the past few decades you would expect to see a corresponding huge increase in brain cancers if there was a causal link, but there has been no such increase.

I am sure this won't stop people from claiming that more studies are needed, but it will be useful ammunition for the mobile phone companies in any legal fights over this issue (see the story in a previous issue of Star).

Even the researchers hedge their findings a bit, saying that follow up studies are needed to make sure cancers are not developing over the longer term, and to see what effect mobile phone use has on children. Of course, I am sure they are not just saying that to keep themselves in work!
