REAL LIFE NEWS: RATS EAT BROADBAND CONNECTION

by Hazed

Broadband services in the east of Scotland were brought down last week by rats. The dastardly rodents chewed through fibre optic cables, causing outages to phone, television and broadband.

Virgin Media customers suffered loss of service and intermittent coverage for two days between Monday morning and Tuesday evening, and Fife Council was one of the customers whose phone lines were down for most of Monday.

The company sent out engineers who figured out that rodents were to blame. They fixed the cables and all seemed to be working again. But the vermin clearly enjoyed the taste of the fibre optics because they came back and took second helpings, causing the service to fail again on Tuesday afternoon.

A Virgin Media spokesperson said, "We've now put additional measures in place to prevent further damage to our cables."

No details were given of those measures... so we don't know if they have simply protected the cables from the gnawing teeth of the hungry rats, or gone on the offensive against the rodents!
