WHILE WE WERE GONE... ALAN'S PLANS FOR THE FUTUREby HazedWhile the Star was off the air, Alan held a session in Chez Diesel to talk about his plans for the future of Fed. He explained that he's done just about all the coding he plans to do on the current version of Fed, and he wants to embark on a new project: a new version of Fed, provisionally called Fed3, which will run in a web browser rather than using a separate front-end. The server end of the game will be written to run on cloud computers instead of a dedicated machine which will make it a lot cheaper to run. This does not mean that Fed2 will close down. We will keep the current version of the game running as long as people want to play it, and enough people buy slithy toves to pay the monthly bills. Just to lay any misunerstandings to rest, Alan will still do maintenance on the game, fixing any bugs that show up, and we'll still put planet files in for new planets and to replace existing files. And I will continue to produce the Star every week. You can read the transcript of Alan's talk here. |
