REAL LIFE NEWS: THE TRIATHLETE OF CRIME

by Hazed

A teenager on the run from police completed a triathlon as he sought to escape from justice: he biked, ran and swam, but ended up being arrested anyway.

Benjamin J Solchenberger, an 18-year-old from Wausau, WI, was accused of stealing a truck, and then crashing it. He fled from police by stealing a bicycle and pedalling away. Then he abandoned the bike and took to his feet, and finally swam across the Wisconsin River to avoid arrest.

It all started early one morning, when a sheriff's deputy was called with a report of a truck in a ditch. As he made his way to the scene, he saw a man with mud on his clothes riding a bike. When he reached the truck it became apparent that the driver, who had tried to push the truck out of the muddy ditch, was the cyclist.

Next, the suspect was spotted without his bike in a nearby street. He ran into a wooded area and then jumped into the river, swimming from the west bank to the east bank. When he climbed out, he was nicked.

Solchenberger is being held on charges of vehicle theft, two counts of obstructing an officer, for violating the terms of his probation, and underage drinking.
