GADGET OF THE WEEK: WASHABLE RFID CHIPS

If you're in the habit of helping yourself to the towels whenever you stay in a hotel, beware: a Miami company called Linen Technology Tracking (there's a nice, descriptive name!) has patented an RFID chip that can be sewn into hotel linens, and won't get damaged in the wash. This means hotels will be able to keep track of their towels, bed sheets and robes, so if you stuff one into your suitcase and try to walk out, you could end up having to answer some embarrassing questions!

So far, three hotels have started to use this chip. They are situated in Honolulu, Miami and Manhattan, but the news story didn't say which hotels, which means if you're staying in those cities you'd best be careful just in case.
