REAL LIFE NEWS: FACEBOOK USED TO HELP SIEGE MAN

by Hazed

During a recent armed siege, the friends of the suspect aided him by passing info about the police tactics using Facebook.

Jason Valdez was holding a hostage in a motel room in Ogden, Utah during a stand-off with police and SWAT teams that lasted 16 hours. During the siege, he found the time to post on Facebook to keep his friends and family updated on what was going on.

Some of those who responded urged him to give himself up, but one of his friends sent a message warning him that the police, "had a gunner in the bushes. Stay low." To which Valdez replied, "Thank you homie. Good looking out."

SWAT officers eventually broke the siege by storming the room, freeing the hostage and arresting Valdez.

Now the police are discussing whether the friends who gave Valdez info can be charged with obstruction of justice for hampering a police investigation. "Lt Danielle Croyle from the Ogden police said, "We're talking about it and trying to figure out how do we address the kind of conflict that it presents." He added that police are not sure how to deal with this kind of situation.

Somebody had better figure it out soon because I am sure this with come up again.
