REAL LIFE NEWS: NINJA AIR CREWS

by Hazed

Air passengers sometimes misbehave - they won't sit down and strap in, they won't stop using their phones, or they drink too much and get rowdy. Cabin crew then have to deal with them. So to help keep order in the air, Hong Kong Airlines is going to give its crew martial arts training.

The airline is encouraging its new flight attendants to study a type of Kung Fu called wing chun, which - according to Katherine Cheung of the Hong Kong Wing Chun Union - can be used in small, confined spaces. "It's easy to learn but difficult to master," she explained. Katherine is one of the instructors who recently taught a flight crew.

Evan Chan, Deputy General Manager of Corporate Communication for the airline, told the China Morning Post that the airline deals with about three disruptive-passenger incidents each week. The entire Hong Kong airline staff can sign up for the training if they want, but it is now required for flight attendants.

The name Wing Chun hasn't got anything to do with the wings of the plane, sadly - it translates as "spring chant". It utilizes both striking and grappling in close-range combat.

So if you're flying on Hong Kong Airlines - behave yourself!
