REAL LIFE NEWS: DO YOU SURF AND DRIVE?

by Hazed

If you own a smartphone, do you use it to surf the internet while driving? One in five Americans do. That's a scary thought.

US insurance company State Farm has carried out a survey, asking almost 1,000 smartphone-owners about their surfing-and-driving habits. It turns out the activity that has them taking their eyes off the road the most is social networking. Looking for directions, reading email, and searching for info were also popular activities.

Most of the respondents said they only use the internet when the car is stationary - stuck at a red light or in a traffic jam. But they also said they surf when the car is moving very slowly… or when they are driving on the interstate on a long and boring drive… which doesn't instill me with confidence in their safety!
