A CONVERSATION WITH BELLA

Players keep asking me when the code to make mobiles move about will be put into the game, so I decided to go and find Bella and ask her how she's getting on. I expected her to be her hunched over a computer, working furiously to program this new feature into Federation DataSpace. But no. I found her lounging in a hot tub, sipping a Rigellian green chili vodka, while listening to a recording of the Freddy Furbank Five laying down some jazz vibes.

Looking at the cover of the data crystal I found that this jazz combo are clones, so all five members are Freddy Furbank!

After accepting a green drink of my own, I sat on the edge of the hot tub and dangled my toes into the foaming water, and prepared to question Our Illustrious Leader, She Who Created the Universe.

"So, Bella," I began. "How's it going?"

"Really great," she replied. "I've been in the hot tub for four hours and my skin hasn't gone all wrinkly yet - that latest treatment has worked wonders. And this music is to die dead-dead for. Listen to this bit..." She closed her eyes to appreciate a keyboard solo which, to me, sounded like a cat being strangled. There may have been a tune in there somewhere, but it was having a very hard time getting out.

The keyboarding Freddy finished with a flourish, giving way to the sax-playing Freddy, so Bella turned her attention back to me.

I resumed my questioning. "Actually, I wasn't asking about your beauty regime but about the coding for moving mobiles."

"Oh, that's going well too. I've written oodles of code. Lines and lines and lines. Screenfuls. You know, lots."

"And does it work?"

"Oh well, I haven't finished yet and I can't do any testing until the end."

"So when will it be ready?"

"Oh... soon. You know. In the fullness of time."

"Can you be a bit more specific?"

"Umm... two weeks!"

With that familiar response, I realized there was absolutely no point in trying to get anything more definite out of Bella. Even if she did give me a sensible answer, there was no guarantee she'd then get the coding done in the time.

So it will be ready when it's ready!
