REAL LIFE NEWS: SEE, I TOLD YOU ALCOHOL WAS GOOD FOR YOU

by Hazed

There has been lots of research into alcohol over the years. Is it good for you? Is it bad for you? Sometimes you read a report saying one thing, sometimes the other. Now, a researcher has done a meta-study where he looked at all the research done in the past 30 years to weigh up the overall conclusion.

The result? Moderate drinking can help to prevent heart disease. Hooray - pass the bottle!

An article published in the British Medical Journal, written by a Canadian research group, showed a 14% to 25% reduction in heart disease in moderate drinkers compared with people who had never drunk alcohol. Another article shows that alcohol increases "good" cholesterol levels.

Sounds like good news all round. But that hasn't stopped the misery-guts from saying that alcohol causes lots of problems, too. "This is not a reason to start drinking," several health experts have said.

Well, I don't think anybody who doesn't already drink is going to suddenly start because of health benefits, because there are plenty of other good reasons to start drinking. Ever since the dawn of civilization, humans have enjoyed getting intoxicated. It's just nice to know that when I open a bottle of wine, I'm doing my heart a favor!
