OUR FAVORITE CHRISTMAS SONGS

by Hazed

As promised in last week's Star, here are some of our favorite seasonal songs.

Hazed

Merry Christmas Everybody - Slade
The quintessential 70s Christmas rock song - in the UK it gets played to death every year, but who can resist the siren call of lead singer Noddy Holder as he bellows out "It's Chriiiiiiiiistmaaaaaaaas...!"

Christmas with the Devil - Spinal Tap
The best rock parody band combines Satanism with Christmas.

To bring it a little more up to date, some bright spark has put together footage from the Dr Who Christmas specials to go with the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eslCm7M6OPg

Christmas Time (Don't Let the Bells End) - The Darkness
In the early noughties, retro band The Darkness made us love 70s rock all over again, and this was their Christmas song, complete with ridiculous, over-the-top video.

Chipmunks Roasting on an Open Fire - Bob Rivers
Bah, humbug!

In the Bleak Midwinter - Corinne May
My favorite carol, very apt right now because as I write this London is in the grip of an ice age - the earth really does stand hard as iron, and frosty winds are moaning very loudly!

Gaudete - Steeleye Span
I sang this at school and can still remember all the different melody lines that come together to make the wonderful harmony.

Edward Scissorhands soundtrack - Danny Elfman
It's not really intended to be Christmassy, but it crops up in an awful lot of Christmas adverts in the UK, so I guess it counts!

White Christmas - Jim Carrey
Hilarious clip of Carrey "singing".

Christmas Carol - Tom Lehrer
The true spirit of Christmas!

Walking in the Air - from the film The Snowman
It's not so much the song I love as the video that goes with it.

Irn Bru advert
And then there's the version that was used to advertise a Scottish soft drink...

Bella

Everybody's favorite green-skinned Goddess decided to stick with songs from her native star system of Rigel, and sadly none of these songs have made it onto YouTube yet.

The Christmas Nova Song - Stella Nucleosynthesis
One for the Pot - Heisenberg's Turkey
Good King Mingceslas - Grunge & The Gangsters
Tangled Snowflakes - The Quantum Mechanics
The 0x0C days of Christmas - Hex and the Hackers
I Saw Three Spaceships - The Gaelaan Male Voice Choir
All I Want for Christmas is New Front Sensors - The Sen'Sations
I'm Dreaming of a Green Christmas - Redmund Toenail and the Snarcots
Frosty the Snow Droid - The Pearly Droids

She did grudgingly find one song from Earth:

Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuTHxMjVivg

Here's an excerpt from the lyrics:
'When they found her Christmas mornin',
At the scene of the attack.
There were hoof prints on her forehead,
And incriminatin' Claus marks on her back.'
