REAL LIFE NEWS: CAVING IN KLINGON

by Hazed

An Australian cave system has become the world's first tourist attraction to offer tours in Klingon.

Pause for a moment and I am sure you can come up with far more jokes than I ever could about boldly going!

The Jenolan Caves are approximately 100 miles west of Sydney. They are a National Park and a popular tourist attraction, featuring 11 show caverns, 25 miles of underground passages, rivers and breathtaking rock formations. One of the oldest cave systems in the world, they are visited by roughly 200,000 people a year.

So what's all that got to do with the made-up Klingon language?

Well, it's all to do with an episode of the Star Trek: Next Generation series called Relics, in which there was a ship called the USS Jenolan.

Yes, that's apparently enough to establish a connection with the TV series. So Klingon experts Michael Roney Jr and Tracy Canfield flew from the US to Sydney to record the tour translations, and Klingon became the 11th language featured.
