REAL LIFE NEWS: THE WEDDING ENDED WITH A BANG

by Hazed

Proof, if you needed it, that guns have no place at weddings, comes from Turkey where a bridegroom accidentally sprayed the guests with bullets and killed several of his relatives.

Apparently it's commonplace in certain parts of the country to fire live rounds into the air as a celebration, but this frequently leads to accidents - although not usually as serious as this one! The unfortunate groom fired off a magazine of ammo from an AK47 assault rifle, intended to shoot into the sky, but he accidentally lost control of the weapon and peppered the guests with a hail of lead. The errant bullets killed the man's father and two of aunts, and injured eight others.

This "happy firing" isn't just confined to bullets. Sometimes celebrants cut loose with heavy weapons such as antitank rockets.

The problem, of course, is that even if the muzzle of the weapon stays above head height, bullets (or grenades) that are fired into the sky are subject to gravity, and they have to come down somewhere - and generally hit with lethal force when they do.

The Turkish government is trying to stamp our "happy firing" by the use of harsh penalties, so the unfortunate groom has reportedly been arrested.
