REAL LIFE NEWS: WATCHING FOR METEORS

by Hazed

This time of year is the best time to see falling stars. Whether you can catch one and put it in your pocket, I don't know, but there are a whole bunch of meteors on display every night as the Earth experiences the Perseid meteor shower.

I'm a little late on reporting this, because the peak of the shower was a few days ago, but there's still time to catch the show in the next week or so. Around 3.30am is the best time of the night in Northern latitudes, so pick a cloudless night, get away from glaring city lights and stay up late (or get up early). You could see as many as one meteor a minute.

Here's some more information about the Perseid meteors.

And here's a spectacular picture of a meteor taken a few days ago.
