REAL LIFE NEWS: FAKE ID IN SCHOOL WAITING LIST FRAUD

by Hazed

Parents will go to extreme lengths to get their children into "good" schools, and one devious mother recently ventured into fraud in order to move her child up the waiting list.

The unnamed woman posed as another parent, in order to remove the rival child's name from the school's waiting list. She created a fake Gmail account using the rival's name, to fool school authorities at the Coleridge primary school in Crouch End, London. The school was rated as "outstanding" so there were more applicants than there were places.

Using the fake account, and quoting the name and date of birth of the other child, she wrote to the education officials and told them to take the four year old off the waiting list. The officials did as they were asked, but when the real mother of the child telephoned to ask about the progress of her child's application to the school, the ruse unravelled.

Police are investigating and the local council intends to improve admission procedures.
