FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday April 27
by Fancy-Fancy, Technocrat of Toontown

I got three players to show up for this week's edition of the Fed Phrase Game. Gizmo, Honkintoda, and Spam all came to Studio 1 to try their luck with the wheel and skill with the puzzles. Squeeky showed up toward the end of the event to cheer them on. As Spam was new to these events, I explained how we played the game just like Wheel of Fortune, and the associated rules. When that was done, it was time to set the playing order, and Gizmo got the first slot, followed by Spam, and then Honkintoda.

Our first puzzle was a 5 word thing (6, 2, 3, 7, and 3 letters), and Gizmo was up first to start it. Gizmo started off finding a pair of S's, an R, three T's, bought the E's, filled in an H, three N's, a G, Y, and finally a D, before solving the puzzle - energy of the distant sun - for 4800 points.

We moved on to our second puzzle, 3 word things (4, 6, and 9 letters). Spam was up next in the order and started this one, with a Bankrupt. Honkintoda took over and found an R, two S's, and an N for 1000, before picking a T that was not in the puzzle. Gizmo took over, and proceded to add a couple L's, bought the E's and I, found a pair of D's, bought an O, found an H, P, and V, before solving - oval-shaped cylinders - for 1900. Honkintoda clearly wished Gizmo had kept taking chances spinning the wheel, saying, "jesus would have spun". Gizmo smiled back, "jesus could have controlled the outcome of the spin. i can't :)"

We went to our third puzzle of the night, a 3 word thing (1, 7, and 7 letters). Once again Gizmo's solve made Spam next in the order to start the new puzzle. This time Spam landed on 150, and called S, but it wasn't in the puzzle. Honkintoda took over and found three N's for 450 each, an R for 1000, bought the A's, and then bought an O, but O was not in the puzzle, ending Honk's turn. Gizmo found two L's for 600 each, followed by a T, then bought the E's. He tried P next, but that wasn't in the puzzle, turning the puzzle over to Spam. Finally Spam got to call a letter in the puzzle, finding an M for 150. Spam wanted to buy a vowel next, but didn't have the points for it, so spun and called Y, but that wasn't in the puzzle, and Honkintoda took over again. By this time, Honkintoda was sure of the puzzle, and spun the wheel for more points in filling in the last two consonants, an F and G for 500 and 750 points, then solved - a flaming lantern - for 3100 points.

We had time for a fourth puzzle tonight, and the category for this one was 4 word food and drink (7, 4, 6, and 5 letters). Gizmo got to start this one. He also, like the first puzzle, finished it, filling in S, R, E, I, T, A, H, W, D, B, N (for a free spin), G, C, and L without a miss or turn-ending space on the wheel to spell out the entire puzzle - lasagna with garlic bread - and solve for 3550 points.

That brought us to the end of our hour. The final totals had Honkintoda taking second place with 3100 points, and Gizmo tonight's big winner with 10250 points. Congratulations to Gizmo and Honkintoda on the puzzles they solved. Join us again May 25 at 10.00pm Eastern in Studio 1 for the next edition of the Fed Phrase Game, and next Tuesday for Fedpardy!
