REAL LIFE NEWS: BEER WORKERS ON STRIKE OVER RIGHT TO DRINK AT WORK

by Hazed

Speaking of beer, workers at the Carslberg brewery in Copenhagen, Denmark, have walked out over a dispute about drinking on the job.

The staff in the warehouse and on the production line are rebelling against the company's new alcohol policy. Previously, workers could help themselves to beer throughout the day, from coolers placed around the work sites. But now the company has removed the beer coolers and said that workers can only drink beer in the canteen during lunch hours.

Company spokesman Jens Bekke said that the only restriction was, "that you could not be drunk at work. It was up to each and everyone to be responsible." Clearly that didn't suit the management, though - they'd been thinking about changing this policy for years, and finally imposed the new rules at the beginning of the month, prompting the walkout.

I wonder why they wanted to make the change. Was the free beer costing too much, or were the workers getting drunk, or maybe it was part of the new anti-alcohol morality that's taking hold in so many countries? Or perhaps it was a combination of all three.
