REAL LIFE NEWS: STUPID CROOKS TAKE DOWN VIRGIN MEDIA

by Hazed

Virgin Media, the broadband and cable TV company in the UK, had two outages in the Leeds area recently because stupid thieves are ripping out the cables, thinking that they are made of valuable copper.

In fact, the cables are glass fibre, which is absolutely worthless unless it's being used for its intended purpose, transmitting stuff.

Copper has almost doubled in price on the commodity markets in the last 12 months, which has led to an increase in its scrap price. Gangs of thieves have been stealing copper cables by breaking a roadside cable then attaching it to the back of a truck or van in order to rip it from its shallow trench. But when they mistakenly target fibre instead of copper, they cause massive inconvenience for no gain.

Idiots!
