REAL LIFE NEWS: TWEETS... IN... SPAAAAAACE!

by Hazed

The first tweet has been sent from space. A giant leap for social networks, or something.

US astronaut Timothy Creamer sent the message from the International Space Station on Friday morning. The ISS had just received a software upgrade to allow real-time web access.

His tweet was exactly 140 characters long - the limit for messages sent using Twitter. It said:

"Hello Twitterverse! We r now LIVE tweeting from the International Space Station -- the 1st live tweet from Space! :) More soon, send your ?s"

Very meaningful, I'm sure. But the significant thing is the new Crew Support LAN (which NASA dubs the "ultimate wireless connection") provides them with a decent connection for the first time - 3 Mbps up and 10Mbps down. Seems bizarre that they hadn't had decent comms links before!
