REAL LIFE NEWS: ONE MORE REASON YOUR MOTHER WAS RIGHT

by Hazed

Remember when you were a child, and you grazed your knee, and your mother would put some sticking plaster on it, and then a few days later when it was time to take the plaster off again she always told you that it would hurt less if you just rip it off, but you couldn't bring yourself to do that so you peeled it off one tiny bit at a time...

Turns out your mother was right. Science has now proved that the pain is less when you rip it off quickly than when you prolong the process.

The research was carried out by Dr Carl O'Kane at Queensland's James Cook University. He used 65 medical students as his guinea pigs, sticking on some band-aid then removing it either quickly or slowly and asking them to rank their pain reaction from zero to 10.

Quick removal scored a pain level of 0.92 compared with the slow method at 1.58.

So you should have listened to your mother!
