FEDPARDY!

Tuesday December 15
by Fancy-Fancy, Technocrat of Toontown

Four players joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's game of FEDPARDY! Brady, Jazir, Caliban, and Doolittle all arrived ready and eager to play. I gave out the categories for tonight - Phobos Phobia, In the Event, H Choo, and Move 16 tons... - and had them spin the wheel to determine who would get first selection. That honor fell to Doolittle.

Doolittle picked Move 16 tons... for 1 to start the game. Caliban rang in and gave the correct question to the answer, and got the first point of the game. Caliban then selected Phobos Phobia for 1. Brady was quicker on ringing in for that one and got it. Brady then selected In the Event for 1, and Jazir beat everyone else to the buzzer and got it. Jazir then went back to Phobos Phobia for 2. Caliban tried it and missed, as did Brady, to fall into the red on points, and no one else rang in. Jazir kept going in the category for 3, and Caliban got it right to get back out of the hole. Caliban continued with the category for 4, which no one tried, then for 5. Caliban attempted the question, but missed on its correctness to lose 5. Caliban tackled In the Event for 2 next. No one rang in on it, but Caliban got the 3 pointer that he selected next. Continuing with that category, he found the first of two Daily Doubles, just before the mid-way break. Caliban decided to risk 3 points, and this was the answer:

If you do this in the right place you will see: You insert four 23-groat pieces into the appropriate slot, and clamber into the cab. The robot driver winks and points to the list of safety regulations on the inside of the door, saying, "Buckle up!" You do so, just in time - you are hurled backwards into the seat as the hovercab rises off the ground and inserts itself into the fast-moving traffic at a speed that only machine reflexes could control.

Caliban responded with, "what is take taxi/cab?", but take was incorrect. Hail was correct. So at the break, Jazir led with 1, Brady had -1, and Caliban -3. That meant Caliban would get the first selection of Double Fedpardy, with all remaining answers having their point values doubled.

Caliban started Double Fedpardy by selecting H Choo for 2. Jazir got that one. Doolittle got the 4 pointer. Jazir and Doolittle both tried but missed on the 6 to fall into the hole. Jazir then got out by getting the 8 pointer, and then found the other Daily Double under the 10. With 5 points, Jazir decided to risk just one on H Choo, and this was the answer:

The three commodities that fit the category.

Jazir thought a bit, before responding, "What are holos, hypnos, and hides?" That was correct, to win his 1-point wager. Jazir selected In the Event for 10 to finish that category, and Caliban tried it, but got it wrong, then Doolittle tried it, and got it right to get out of his hole. That left "Move 16 tons...", and Doolittle started with the 4-pointer. Caliban rang in on it, but got it wrong. Everybody declined to try the 6-pointer, the 8-pointer, and the 10-pointer to finish up. At the end of Double Fedpardy, the scores were:

Doolittle: 8
Jazir: 6
Brady: -1
Caliban: -17

Doolittle and Jazir advanced to Final Fedpardy, with the chance to wager as many of their points as desired on the category of Trumble, Cruikshank & Bone. Once they had placed their bets, I had gone over my usual information on Final Fedpardy, and they verified they were ready, I revealed tonight's Final Fedpardy answer:

The minimum commission that Trumble, Cruikshank & Bone charge on a trade placed through them.

When 60 seconds were up, we started with Jazir, in second place. He wrote down, "what is 250ig?", the correct response. Jazir wagered 5 points, giving him 11 total.

That left Doolittle. He wrote down, "what is 4000 ig for a Futures trade". But that was incorrect. Doolittle also risked 5 points, and that dropped him down to 3. That made Jazir this week's Fedpardy champion.

Congratulations to Jazir on winning this week's Fedpardy championship! Congratulations also go to Doolittle as runner-up, and thanks to Brady and Caliban for also playing. Join us again on December 29 for the 2009 Fedpardy Finale!
