FEDPARDY

Tuesday December 1
by Fancy-Fancy, Technocrat of Toontown

Doolittle, Twitch, and Caliban showed up to play tonight's game of FEDPARDY! in Studio 1. All three were already familiar with how to play the game, so we jumped right to tonight's categories - Through the woods; Out with the "Old"; The N word; and No L, No L. Doolittle got the top number on the studio wheel for first selection, and used it to pick Through the woods for 1 to start the game.

The selected answer was tried by Caliban, then Doolittle got it right. He selected the 2-pointer next, but no one attempted it. Doolittle then started No L, No L for 1, but no one attempted to give the question to that answer, either. The players did better when he then started Out with the "Old" for 1. Doolittle scored the 1, Caliban the 2, Twitch the 3, Doolittle the 4, and Twitch the 5 after Caliban tried it but missed it. Twitch started The N word for 1. All three tried to respond to it, but did so incorrectly. Only after all three had tried did Twitch and Doolittle suddenly realize the correct response to "A popular commodity to produce for its low labor demand, it's also needed to produce the highest base price commodity." We finished up the first half with Twitch gaining the 2 pointer in the category. At the half-way break, Twitch led with 9 points, Doolittle had 5, and Caliban had -5, which meant Caliban would get first pick in Double Fedpardy.

Caliban used the first selection of Double Fedpardy to take The N word for 6, which hid the first of two Daily Doubles. Deciding "go big or go home," Caliban risked the maximum 10, and this was the answer:

The Armstrong Cuthbert office on Titan is always reached with a move in this direction.

Caliban responded with, "What is North?", but that was incorrect. The correct direction was northWEST. Caliban reacted with, "heh, going home I guess, lol". He chose the 8 point answer in the category next, and Doolittle beat Caliban to the buzzer and got it right. Finishing the category for 10, both ran into some trouble, each missing on their attempts to give the correct question to the technology that made vac suits and tailoring services obsolete. Doolittle then started finishing up Through the woods with the 6 point answer. Caliban and Doolittle both attempted it, and both missed, putting Doolittle in the hole, and Caliban further in the hole. Caliban did get the 8 pointer correct, however. But the 10-pointer was a replay of the 6-pointer - both Caliban and Doolittle tried, and missed to lose points. That left No L, No L as the remaining category, and Caliban selected it for 4, and also got it right. Twitch got the 6 pointer, and then the 10 pointer after Caliban missed on it. That left the second Daily Double as the lone remaining answer on the board for Twitch, who had 25 points at that point, to negatives for his competitors. With Caliban urging, "go big or go home" and Doolittle whispering a suggestion of betting 25 to him, Twitch decided to risk 24 points on this Daily Double, meaning he would either finish Double Fedpardy with 49 points or 1. The answer was:

All the solar system moons fitting the category.

Twitch went with, "what are sumatra and phobos and rhea and Saturn?" Had he gone with Saturn's moon Titan instead of Saturn itself, Twitch would have finished Double Fedpardy with 49 points. Instead he led with 1 point, to -13 for Doolittle and -39 for Caliban. Twitch advanced alone to Final Fedpardy.

Twitch got the category of Akaturi Items to help him decide how much he wanted to wager in Final Fedpardy. After deciding his wager and verifying he was ready, he got this Final Fedpardy answer:

The ancient computer that you were probably given to transport one time or another as a courier, was of this make and model.

When 60 seconds were up, we took a look at what he wrote down - "what is a Commodore 67". Close, but not quite. There are probably several readers who know it's a Commodore 64. Twitch wagered nothing on that, so he kept his point, and was this week's FEDPARDY! champion. Congratulations to Twitch, and thanks to Twitch, Caliban, and Doolittle for playing. Glad to hear you all had fun.
