HAVE I GOT A JOB FOR YOU!

by Hazed

In between coding sessions programming the new event editor, Alan has found time to come up with something new for the game itself: personalized job offers. This gives POs an alternative way to shift their goods, by offering the cargo jobs directly to a named player rather than posting them on the workboard for anybody to take.

As with workboard jobs, this facility isn't available to POs in the Sol cartel; you have to be in a Plutocrat-owned cartel. The player you are giving the job to must be a Commander or Captain.

The command is 'OFFER playername JOB commodity planetname', where 'player' is the poor person you want to give the job to, 'commodity' is the goods you want to shift, and 'planetname' is the destination planet, which must be in the same cartel. You can't offer a job to a player who already has a pending job offer which they haven't either accepted or rejected.

You will get notified when the cargo is delivered. But be warned: the hauler can choose to reject your offer, in which case you lose the goods, so don't offer jobs to players without prior arrangement. And don't forget to check that the hauler can leave Sol before you offer the job!

For the hauler, when you receive a job offer, it shows up on your ship's status display as a pending job, as well as any current job you may have. You can only have one pending job at a time. If you have a current job you need to complete that before you can accept the pending job; then you 'ACCEPT' and the job stops being pending and becomes your current job. Alternatively, you can choose to 'REJECT JOB' if it's not an offer you can't refuse.

If you choose to accept it, you deliver the cargo just as you would any job. The payment will be broadly similar to that for PO-posted workboard jobs.
