REAL LIFE NEWS: DON'T TEXT AND DRIVE

by Hazed

In yet another survey that confirms something that everybody knew all along, it turns out that driving while texting is dangerous. Well, what a surprise!

The first study of drivers who text inside their vehicles shows that the risk of crashes exceeds previous estimates which were based on lab research by a long way. It also far supasses the dangers of other driving distractions.

This was an extensive study in which the cabs of long-haul trucks were fitted with video cameras over 18 months, and it found that when texting, the collision risk was 23 times greater than when not texting. In the moments before a crash or near crash, the drivers typically spent nearly five seconds looking at their devices - enough time at typical highway speeds to cover more than the length of a football field. More than enough time to crash into something!
