BANKRUPTCY GLITCH

by Hazed

A protest by the Worshipful Company of Accountants, Bookkeepers and Spreadsheet Wrangles (the intergalactic guild for all financial professionals) put a hold to all pending bankruptcies last week, so that those who wished to demote to a lower rank because they had made a mess of things were unable to do so. The accountants were complaining because the new bankruptcy regime allows CEOs to declare themselves insolvent and, in some cases, liquidate a company or wind up a business without having to employ the services of a highly paid financial expert.

Appalled at the fact that they won't be contracted to organize the bankruptcies, and therefore won't be able to rake in huge fees, they obtained an injunction to stop all bankruptcies from going through while they argued their case to Galactic Administration officials.

However, their protest fell on deaf ears (or equivalent) and the GA ruled that the accountants could not insist that only they could run bankruptcies. Their claim was thrown out, the injunction lifted, and insolvent CEOs could finally cash in their chips.

[The real story: when the test team finished testing the bankruptcy code in the test server, Alan put it into the live game, but forgot to change the restriction that it would only operate in the test server! As soon as somebody tried to go bankrupt, failed, and told Alan about it, he lifted that restriction.]
