REAL LIFE NEWS: DR WHO THEME IS THE BEST SCI-FI THEME TUNE

by Hazed

Readers of Total Sci-Fi magazine have voted for their favorite television science fiction theme tunes and the iconic Dr Who music came out top.

The original theme was devised by staff in the BBC's Radiophonic Workshop, an amazing collection of boffins responsible for many sound effects and theme tunes over the years. Ron Grainer composed it and it was arranged by Delia Derbyshire. You can hear a mashup of the various versions used over the years, along with pictures of all the doctors, here.

(Altogether now... diddly-dum, diddly-dum, diddly-dum, dum dum da-da... wa wa oooooooo...)

Other theme tunes in the top ten list included Red Dwarf, Buffy, Star Trek and Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy. All good tunes, but Dr Who clearly deserved its win.
