CRYPTOGRAMS

Monday, April 20
by Catspaws

I was so proud of myself this week. I tied a string around my paw so I wouldn't forget it was Monday, Cryptograms Day. What I forgot, however, was to tie a string onto my paw to remind myself to set my kitty alarm clock so I wouldn't oversleep. Oops! Fortunately, I was only about 15 minutes late, and that's fashionable.

This week was special for several reasons. First we had a new player in Kathecadie, although she was only able to play one puzzle. She did a great job, though, and I hope she returns to play again. Second, we had five players, which felt great after weeks where we couldn't gather three. Third, an old Cryptos player showed up to play, Zand, who used to be able to compete with Fancy. He couldn't beat Fancy, but he could hold his own. Welcome back, Zand. It was good to see you wander off that orbiting dustbll of yours for a change.

The last couple of weeks saw some changes in the manufacturer rank, so I decided to dedicate this week's puzzles to the brave manufacturers of Fed who work hard to make the Financiers' pocketbooks fatter. So, for the first puzzle, we looked at the names of some of our manufacturers. Jezz, Dingbat and Zand completed the puzzle, followed by Kathecadie and Dingbat. Well done!

Names of Fed's Manufacturers (Who Manufacturer or Di Companies):
DQVDR
TMXUDB
TPGKBMHK
GHTUSUPAO
CMARDB
VRHSMG

Some factories are profitable to build, some, not so much so. Jezz, Tenabutter and Dingbat completed this puzzle first, followed by Zand.

Favorite Factories for Manufacturers (http://www.ibgames.net/fed2/guide/companies/inputs.html):
HFRKUHZRG
RJBHFCG
QHQPUHDFKZG
UKFIAHXXG
BQKYHRPFG
QHQPG

As anyone who's ever bought a dud factory can tell you, not all factories are profitable. Dingbat, Jezz and Tenabutter solved this puzzle, while Zand drew a blank.

Least Profitable Factories for Manufacturers (http://www.ibgames.net/fed2/guide/companies/inputs.html):
QBFDEIMST
ABIOME
NCJDE
EMWC
IDGIBQDE
DQDSIOME

Manufacturers have their own commands, usually comprised of two words. Jezz, Dingbat and Zand solved this puzzle, while Tenabutter got five of the six.

Commands for Manufacturers (http://www.ibgames.net/fed2/commands/index.html):
BPFNGOP CGIEOSZMFR
AOPPJP FTLZGIR
WDDSP BWHWBPIB
BWDZNGR GFFTSIMD
SZVOGBP DMTOGVP
CSR MOPGDSOR

The last puzzle falls into the Think Like the Kitty Category, and was quite cute, if I say so myself. It is a list of commodities we would like to see in Fed. Jezz, Tenabutter and Dingbat completed this puzzle, followed by Zand.

Commodities You Would Like to See
EPQEQBNCJ
ENCLGD
VPGYWJU
XAQNCY
DGTTN
YBGCPGJY

When the scores were tallied, Jezz came in first, Dingbat second, and Tenabutter third. Join me next Monday at 3.00pm eastern for Cryptograms, and I'll try to remember to turn on my alarm clock!
